Rodents and the Threat They Pose to Lives
Everyone knows about rats and mice, more commonly known as rodents. These furry creatures carry diseases that are transmittable to humans. Some examples of diseases that can be transferred are leptospirosis, ratbite fever, salmonella poisoning and arena virus. Mice are colorblind and have low vision. These rodents maneuver around with their smelling sense to locate food. Their whiskers help them to move around in the dark.
Mice can contaminate foods with their feces, once they get a hold of it, and they will eat just about anything that humans will partake of. Mice aren’t known to get extremely big in size and they mainly dwell in urban or farming surroundings.
They adapt to their surroundings very well and have a long sustainable life span that makes them hard to eliminate. Mice are fast and can be hard to catch.
Rats are more harmful than mice. Rats live in sewers, dumpsters, gutters and any other filthy unsanitary habitats that you can think of. These rodents also carry well known parasites such as worms and fleas. Rats love to chew on objects such as paper, wood, plastic, and aluminum. These critters also love to chew on wires which can be dangerous and potentially lead to house fires. Rats are mainly found in urban and city areas, it is an environment where they can thrive due to the many cracks, trash and grime that is already lurking around the city streets.
Rats are great swimmers so trying to drown them in water would not be the route to take. They travel underground and can hide themselves from predators that prey on them. Walls are rat friendly so they can be used as routes of escape for a rat in danger. Since rats are agile they can survive falls or throws a little over fifty feet. There are several types of rats such as the Norway rat and the roof rat just to name a few. Trying to figure out what type of rat you have in your home may be challenging and time consuming. If you find that you do not have the time to do this then don’t waste your energy. Knowing that you have a rat in your home is a good enough reason to get rid of it as soon as you can.
Rats may bite. These creatures love to gnaw on objects and there is a possibility that they can take a bite out of you or your children if they feel threatened or provoked. Rats are known to be sneaky and they sense when danger is near.
These furry creatures have low vision but their hearing is impeccable. If you or a family member has been bitten go to your nearest hospital to receive proper treatment. Some procedures that you may have to endure are a rabies test, a vaccine, and you may have to complete follow up visits with your physician to ensure that your body hasn’t been infected with other miscellaneous diseases.
